Kind-hearted Grace asked for donations to Bide Awhile in lieu of gifts for her 8th birthday. Grace (& her gift-givers) checked out the "wish list" on Bide Awhile's website and so brought much needed things like laundry detergent, bleach, face cloths, pet dishes and food.
Thank you Grace! - Our animals enjoy their gifts from you.
Carrot Cake for Kitties!
Animal-lover Caleb helped his mother make carrot cake and he then sold the cake at school. He had fun coming to the shelter to donate all the money for the well-being of the animals in the care of Bide Awhile.
Thank you Caleb! - Supporters like you are invaluable to the shelter.
Animal-lover Findlay turns 1!
We sincerely value the work that you and your staff do to care for the lost and homeless animals of our communities, so in honour of Findlay's first birthday, we asked that family and friends bring donations for the shelter, rather than gift-wrapping birthday presents. We were touched by the overwhelming generosity and thoughtfulness of Findlay's birthday guests, and were pleased to decorate and deliver a special care package full of items from the shelter's wish list.
Thank you to you and your staff for such a warm reception when we dropped off the donations we'd received. When we came by the shelter, we were thrilled for Findlay to have the experience of meeting and playing with some of the kittens and cats.
Our little guy may have small hands, but he has a big heart! Sincerely,
Jillian, Greg, Findlay and Julie Oickle
The BAW staff thanks you for your gift, and all of the animals in our care extend hearty purrs and wags to Finlay, family, and friends.
ESANS 2010 Golf Tournament donated $445!
Bide Awhile sends grand appreciation to the participants of the 2010 Annual Golf Tournament organized by the Environmental Services Association Nova Scotia.
Shown at right is Adam Cooney (ESANS Communications Director) presenting the dontation to Darrold Gould (Bide Awhile Shelter Executive Director), with Sandra Lynch (ESANS Administrator) and feline friends. ESANS appreciates the important work BAW does, for the animals, and the community. It was our pleasure to have Darrold golf with us at the event!
Bide Awhile supporter has done it again!
Holly just had her 2nd birthday and continued the tradition started with her first birthday of collecting food, toys and miscellaneous items for the animals at Bide Awhile in lieu of birthday gifts. Holly was very excited to drop off the generous donations of her birthday party guests - and Bide Awhile was pleased to receive them.
Scroll down this page to view Holly's gift to the shelter last year.
It remains true that the act of giving is priceless, and we are so very proud to have the support of Holly and her family for what we do to care for lost and homeless animals. Thank you!
Presents for the Animals!
In recognition of Chase (Hall)'s love of animals, she asked that in lieu of gifts for herself on her 2nd birthday, a donation be made to Bide Awhile. She enjoyed dropping off the donations and meeting all the wonderful kitties. Thank you for taking the time to show us around.
Our older daughter Devon has decided to do the same for her 4th birthday.
Thanks for all that you do!
Chase, Devon, Adam and Wendy
Gift Basket for the Animals!
Jenna brought in a nice basket containing toys and food. She also presented Bide Awhile with a little treasure box filled with money, some she'd saved herself, some she'd collected from her Dad's friends. Jenna wanted to help the animals and we are ever so grateful for her support.
Selling calendars to make a difference!
Fiona is a long-time supporter of Bide Awhile. Once again this year she sold 20 Bide Awhile calendars. With Fiona is the cat Molly (having a wee bath) who was adopted and going to a loving "home" later that day. :)
Purring in the New Year!
Jenna (on the left) and Nora who arrived on New Years Eve with a collection of food for the animals. They loved the animals and the tour.
Bide Awhile thanks you for your support!
Construction Safety for Animals!
Laura representing the Nova Scotia Construction Safety Association who came through again this year with a generous monetary donation. They've contributed to BAW for many years! (Animal Care Attendant Allie is pictured with her.)
Many thanks for your continued support!
Comcare keeps giving!
Comcare has come through again this year. Bonnie Langille (on the left) & Jacquie Nunn (on the right) dropped off a whole carload of cleaning supplies, litter, food & toys. Bravo!
Way to go boys!
Twins Julien & Gabriel (blue hat) asked for donations to BAW instead of presents for their 4th birthday on Nov. 19th. Their family adopted a cat from BAW 10 years ago & "Honey" just passed away so their donations of food & toys was in memory of "Honey".
Such a generous gift! - Thank you so much.
Thanks Shelby!
For her 12th birthday Shelby asked that donations be made to Bide Awhile. She's been doing this for several years. The Bide Awhile can't thank you enough for making a difference in the lives of animals in our care.
Birthday party generosity!
Hi Darrold,
On November 14th, we had a birthday party for my daughter Ainsley (6) and
son Elliott (4). We'd asked their friends to bring a donation for Bide
Awhile, in lieu of a birthday present. We were pleasantly surprised by our
friends' generosity!
As you can see from the photo, we collected a great
deal of cat food, litter, dog and cat toys and bleach to help the shelter
and feral cats. The kids got a tour of the "kitty house" from the kind
staff
and volunteers, and were thrilled to be able to give something to their
animal friends.
Our guests, too, were excited to bring things for the
animals and to help the shelter. We hope to continue this new tradition
next
year!
Bide Awhile sends a huge thank you to the Organizing Team and the participants of the 2009 Divot & Sand Classic Golf Tournament. This annual tournament is organized by golfing enthusiast employees of the Halifax Regional Municipality.
Stated by one participant, "...this is not a fund raising event, but ....that being said, each year as event organizers, we like to choose a group in the community who may benefit by receiving a cash gift so we raise the money by charging participants a toonie for the chance to win prizes during the tournament. We appreciate the wonderful work that you do and hope the donation from this year's event can assist your work in some small way."
Please accept Bide Awhile's appreciation and gratitude for this gift.
Coat of paint makes a world of difference...

Not only does Global Pet Foods look after the nutrional needs of your cherished pets (plus a whole lot more), they make a point of contributing to local animal shelters like Bide Awhile.
Global Pet Foods recognizes the importance more than ever of giving to shelters in these challenging times. They have been our top seller of our annual pet calendar, sponsored many fundraisers, contributed donations to our spay and neuter program...the list goes on.
In recognition of their contributions, Lucie and Thomas of Global Pet Foods were presented with a plague of appreciation on behalf of Bide Awhile. Thank you Global Pet Foods... community minded retailers like you do make a difference.

Paving and constructing the way for permanent loving homes...
Bide Awhile thanks representatives of Ascon Paving & Econo Renovations. At a staff party for both companies employees were asked to make donations to Bide Awhile. Over $600 was collected so that Bide Awhile can continue to provide a safe haven for unwanted or abused cats and dogs until they can be placed into permanent, loving homes.
Your generous gift directly benefits the animals in our care.

Cassie cares for animal welfare!
What a super-star! Instead of birthday gifts Cassie generously and selflessly asked for monetary donations that she could donate to Bide Awhile.
The lost and homeless animals in our care are still purring and barking your name! Thank you so much for your kindness and compassion.
Big hearts attract big donations!
These girls are amazing - Emily (on the left) and Elizabeth (on the right) set up a stand on Elizabeth's lawn across from Lake Banook during the World Canoe Sprint Championships. They sold lemonade, fudge, cookies, and watermelon and raised over $580 dollars! All the proceeds were donated to Bide Awhile - please accept our most sincere gratitude, we and the animals in our care can't thank you enough. We appreciate all donations, big and small - and you have truly raised the bar with your generous efforts!
Super work Danielle!
Bide Awhile and our animals would like to thank Danielle. She dropped by the shelter with a bag full of coin which we think she managed to save from her allowance. Danielle loves animals (she has two cats of her own) and she wanted to help the animals at BAW who aren't as lucky as hers. Danielle is a role model for generosity.
Nicholas donates again!
Bide Awhile thanks Nicholas for his multiple donations. This time, he collected bottles and gave the refund to help the shelter. He was in awe of all of the wonderful cats here waiting to be adopted!
Sunday school group helps animals!
The group shown below is from the Bedford United Church Grades 5 & 6 Sunday School. The children of the Sunday School group organized & held a bake sale and donated all of the proceeds to help BAW take care of the animals. The funds you have donated help the shelter purchase specialty items and medical supplies that must be used to ensure the health and well being of the animals. We cannot thank you enough!
4th Woodlawn Brownies Love Animals!
The 4th Woodlawn Brownies pooled money weekly during the past year to help the animals at Bide Awhile. Today, the group shown in the photo arrived at the shelter with the pet food & treats, bedding and bleach that they'd purchased with the money raised.
Bide Awhile is able to continue providing shelter for lost and homeless animals because of supporters like you. Wags and purrs to all of you for a job well done!.
Specialty Baking! - June 13, 2009 Membership Appreciation Event
Leslie Hickman made many dozen cookies for the membership appreciation event. The cookies were a very special addition to the day. Thanks so much for helping us appreciate our many volunteers, and for providing the treats at a significant discount.
Family & friends who attended Holly's 1st birthday party brought pet food in lieu of a gift for Holly. Holly's parents, Terry & Suzie, say they hope it becomes a tradition for all of Holly's birthdays. It's plain to see our supporters come in all shapes & sizes & you can support BAW at any age!
The act of giving is priceless, and we are so very proud to have the support of Holly and her family for what we do to care for lost and homeless animals. Thank you!
Shambala Students - Bake Sale for Animals

Crewel Embroidery - Kind to Animals
Bide Awhile thanks Rainbow Needlecraft Group, who took it upon themselves to hold a raffle & donate $735 in proceeds for the animals. Nan Thomson spent countless hours creating the beautiful piece of Crewel Embroidery for the fundraiser, and Marie Malloy is shown holding it. Beverly Wile & BAW volunteer Christine Greene made the draw.
