Pet of the Day is June 15, 2010

Click on the form and get your order in today!

Our Pet of the Day feature just got better. Along with ensuring a day(s) for your furry friend(s), all submissions are automatically entered for a chance to win Pet of the Month and be the feature shot of a month in the 2011 calendar.

Simply buy as many days as you like, send us the payment and pictures with your day selection(s) and we'll do the rest. The cost is $25.00 per calendar day. Your pet's photo and name will appear on the requested day subject to availability and committee approval.

Each submission becomes a contest entry for Pet of the Month. Remember, there are only 365 days in a year so submit early as we expect this to be a huge hit.

Tips & Tricks - Capturing That Winning Photo

  • Most animals are much shorter than we are so get down to their level - see the world as they see it. Photograph them from their height or, better yet, from an even lower point of view. This will result in a much more exciting and interesting photo.

  • Make sure your pet is safe, comfortable and content. Do not try anything dangerous for creativity's sake.

  • Capturing a critter's personality will deliver great results and defer from dreary and uninspiring photos. Just like humans, animals have daily routines. If you want a photo of your cat playing, great, just don't interrupt them while their napping.

  • An assistant can help keep your pet still and/or engaged. Have treats and toys ready and hold them near the camera.

  • Taking photos where your subject fills the frame will have a positive effect. This technique will show great detail and eliminate background distractions.

  • If your pet is dark-colored, use a lighter background. Use a darker background for lighter colored pets.
  • Natural light is better than flash as you want to avoid the "red eye" look. The more light available, the more detail your camera will catch. If your pet is dark- colored, be wary of direct sunlight as it increases shadows.

  • Taking plenty of photos will increase your chance of success.
